Here are some of the most interesting and important things to have happened in the cricketing world this week.

  • WTC Finals, intra-squad simulation game: the two teams lead by Virat Kohli and RL Rahul faced off against each other on the 12th of June in Southhampton where Rishabh Pant scored a full century, scoring 121 runs off of 94 balls whereas Shubman Gill opened with a score of 85 runs off of 135 balls. Furthermore, they are expected to bat more in the upcoming games. A clip of the game was posted by BCCI on Twitter involving Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ravichandran Ashwin bowling to Rohit Sharma and Kohli. This match is a preview of what the fans can expect of the WTC Final on the 18th of June at  The Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

  • Michael Vaugh, the former captain of the England team, predicts that New Zealand will take the win against India in the ICC world test champion final following their victory over England in the important Second Test in Edgbaston. He took to Twitter to say, “NZ are a high class team .. Read the situation with the Bat in hand, skilful with the ball & catch brilliantly .. Really fancy them to beat India next week..”

  • Suresh Raina comments on Rahul Dravid’s contribution to the Indian team in his autobiography, ‘Believe’ as opposed to the popular assumption that it is largely MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly. The following quote is taken directly from his autobiography, “Rahul Bhai was always like family. He would keep fighting for the rights of the junior players. Those extra efforts always matter and leave an impact on people. Youngsters were very important to him. Look at the kind of players who matured under him—the ones that went on to lead India over the next decade. These included M.S. Dhoni, Irfan Pathan, Yuvraj, Piyush Chawla, Dinesh Karthik, Munaf Patel, S. Sreesanth and myself. Rahul Bhai knew that these seven or eight boys would be the face of the team in the coming years. And he made sure that we were nurtured well.”

  • Quetta Gladiator’s batsman,  Faf De Plessis, takes a nasty hit to his head, in a freak field accident after crashing into his fellow teammate Mohammad Hasnain during a Pakistan super league match after which the cricketer was rushed to the hospital. It is reported that he suffered from memory loss and a concussion. Despite this, the player has stated that he hopes to return soon.
