Dhoni made his debut match against Bangladesh in Chittagong. It was not a memorable introduction as he run-out for a first-ball duck.
October 2005
In the second innings, Dhoni scored 183 runs in 145 balls against Pakistan. India won the five-match series by 3-0 and Dhoni was called ‘Man of the Series for the year.

Dhoni played his debut match against Sri Lanka in Chennai and scored only 30 runs.
September 2007
Dhoni took over ODI cricket captaincy from Rahul Dravid.
He also became the captain of the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa. He took 99 stumpings in the second match against Sri Lanka in just 298 matches and broke the international record. In the finals, he led the young Indian side and led them to victory against Pakistan.
