What is the next date of IPL 2020?

What is the next date of the IPL cricket tournament in 2020? This was a question that was etched into the minds of many since the month of march. With the ongoing pandemic, another season of the nation loving premiere league was highly uncertain. There were speculations that the Indian Premier League of IPL 2020 will be called off.

In the wake of the coronavirus that had claimed the lives of nearly 400 Indians and had affected over 12000 people in the country at that time, the Board of Control for Cricket in India took a decision of suspending the tournament till further notice.

The IPL was set to start on March 29 and end on May 24, but it was first postponed till April 15 after a surge of coronavirus positive cases in India. Word had it that the league was supposed to be held at Chennai and Bengaluru. However, with the situation not being conducive for any sporting activity and the country in the midst of a 40-day lockdown, the BCCI didn't issue any fresh date. There were speculations that the tournament would be held in the month of May. However, no official announcement was made by the BCCI.

The New tentative IPL 2020 schedule date was between 26 September 2020 and 8 November 2020 After preponing the start of the Indian Premier League 2020 season from September 26 to 19, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking to postpone the final from November 08 to 10. The change is being contemplated in order to get the Indian cricket team to depart for their tour of Australia directly from the UAE instead of a pit stop in India.

The IPL Governing Council on Sunday announced the schedule for Dream11 Indian Premier League 2020 to be held in UAE. The season was officially announced to kickstart on 19th September in Abu Dhabi with a blockbuster clash between defending champions Mumbai Indians and fan favourite Chennai Super Kings. Chennai super kings won their opening game after all the obstacles they faced before the competition.

After the tournament opener on 19th September, Saturday, Dubai hosted its first game on Sunday when Delhi Capitals took on Kings XI Punjab followed by the third match on Monday between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The IPL action was decided to shift to Sharjah on Tuesday, 22nd September where Rajasthan Royals had hosted Chennai Super Kings.

There will be 10 double headers with the first match starting at 3:30PM IST and 2:00PM UAE time. All evening matches are scheduled to start at 7:30PM IST and 6:00PM UAE time. In all, 24 matches are being held in Dubai, out of which 20 are being held in Abu Dhabi and 12 in Sharjah.

But even after all the ups and downs in the organization of the nation loved tournament, The Indian premier league launched successfully amidst the pandemic situation, taking all necessary precautions. The love for the game will forever keep it alive through online cricket and live streaming mediums.
